It is a rapidly expanding area of research that is changing our understanding of mental health and gut disorders.

B. Communication along this axis flows in both directions. The brain can directly influence gut function; for example, the experience of stress or anxiety can trigger symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, or altered bowel habits.
